Bangladesh HC allows setting up factories in ‘Ecological Critical Area’ around Sundarbans

Bangladesh High Court has allowed setting up of factories near the Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) of Sundarbans. The court asked the government to provide environmental clearance to three companies for setting up LPG bottling plants in Mongla industrial area near the Sundarbans.

In 1999, An area of 10 kilometres within the world’s largest mangrove forest at Sundarban was declared Ecologically critical area by the government but many industries have come up in this area over a period of time. The UNESCO has declared three sanctuaries in the Sundarbans as World Heritage Site in 1997.

Sundarban is the world’s largest mangrove area spread over 10 thousand square kilometres of which 60 % falls in Bangladesh and 40 % in India.

Bangladesh – Russia sign deal for a lifetime supply of Nuclear fuel

Bangladesh signed a deal with  Russia for the supply of uranium for its 2400 MW Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP). The deal was signed in Dhaka between the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and Russian Nuclear Fuel Supply Company. Inaugurated Model village in Sri Lanka

The Gandhi Nagar model village built in Sri Lanka with Indian assistance was inaugurated. The inaugurated Model village in Sri Lanka handed over to the beneficiaries.
